Let The Skiing and Snowboarding Begin!
December 17, 2007We finally are opening the ski and snowboard runs December 22nd. All week long people and families in the community were asking and commenting as to when the Loup ski hill would open. The hope to open before Christmas was on so many alpine and Nordic skiier, snowboarder, and tuber minds. We just kept thinking and talking snow, and how could we not because the big white flakes just keep falling out of the sky. Currently we have a 12″-18″ snow base on the mountain, which pretty much makes for early season conditions, so glide with care. I was out on the Nordic trails today and the amount of snow falling was a dream come true. Powder was everywhere, making it a challenge to skate ski, but cutting our own tracks made me feel like we were the only skiiers out there. The trails were already groomed, but so much snow was falling and covering the tracks, and we couldn’t see them. Yahoo powder lovers. This is what gliding at the Loup is all about–the powder and the ability to move through it in so many ways whether it is alpine or Nordic skiing, snowboarding, or tubing, we are fortunate to have the choice of whatever flavor of gliding we want. In California the outdoor enthusiasts pride themselves on swimming at the beach one day and playing in the mountain snow the next day. Here in North Central Washington, we have our bowl of snow between our two valleys where we can snowboard, tube, downhill and cross country ski in one day.
